Please take this survey on how you access L&S Advising

The folks here at L&S Advising are working hard to improve how you get the help and information you need to thrive at Cal. So we can concentrate our efforts where they'd benefit you the most, we'd like to know which media you currently use - and which you'd prefer to use - to reach us. It's only two questions long, how hard is that?!

Exceptional Change to Class Schedule

February 28, 2008

As you may know, the deadline to add/drop classes and changing the grading option from P/NP to letter grade has already passed. In the case that you missed the deadline, here are a couple of options:

  • If there were some extenuating circumstances that prevented you from changing your class schedule before the deadline, then you can file the Exceptional Change to Class Schedule Petition, available in our office at 113 Campbell and online. Filling out this petition does not guarantee that any schedule changes will be made. You should expect during the decision process that you will have to continue in the class you want to drop, for instance. In your personal statement, be sure to explain clearly your reasons for needing to change your schedule, what had prevented you from making the change(s) before the deadline, and any other relevant information you deem important. If you have any questions about filling out the petition, please stop by at our office for assistance.
  • Changing a letter graded class to P/NP, which you can still do through Tele-bears until Friday, April 4th. For example, if you can handle taking that extra class and don’t need the letter grade to fulfill any type of requirement, consider taking the class P/NP as to not jeopardize performance in your other courses. This is also an option for those that did not get their petitions for Exceptional Change to Class Schedule approved.

Are you looking for a great job for the upcoming academic year? Consider applying to become a College of Letters and Science Peer Adviser! You learn invaluable communication skills while making new friends and receiving great pay. If interested, please go here. The application deadline is 4:00 pm on April 4th.

Deadline to add/drop classes

February 22, 2008

This Friday, February 22 is the deadline to add/drop classes and to change P/NP to Letter Graded.

So just in case, check your schedule on Bearfacts to make sure you're ready to go, and print a copy for your records as well. If you are on a wait list, make sure that you check your schedule after 7pm on Friday which is when all wait lists will be processed. Sometimes, there are students who were wait listed for a class that they haven't been attending and forget to drop or they forget to add that 1 unit for fieldwork or a decal. Don't let that happen to you. Before it's too late, make sure your schedule is set!

If you're having difficulty enrolling in at least 13 units, drop-by for an appointment at 113 Campbell, and our advisers will try to help you!

February 22 add/drop deadline

February 07, 2008

Just a reminder, the last day to add/drop a class is the Friday of the fifth week of classes, on February 22, 2008 at 11:59 pm. All schedule changes are to be made through Tele-bears. Please do not wait until the last minute to add/drop a class in the case of technical difficulties. By that date, you should be enrolled in at least 13 units as a full time student.

Handy Breadth List Search

February 07, 2008

If you're still having trouble finding classes to fill your schedule, search our L&S Breadth List at http://ls-breadth.berkeley.edu/search.php for open classes. Or, check out decal.org for a fun, relaxing class. Decals are a great way to get you to full time status if you're short just a unit or two.
